The council has been called on to resurface the remainder of a lane in Stradbally.

Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy asked “that this Council resurface the back lane at Church Avenue, Stradbally. This lane was partially resurfaced recently.”

In response,  Senior Executive Engineer Philip McEvoy said “the recent surfacing works were carried out by the Housing Developer who is currently constructing the new housing estate on the other side of the back lane.

The Housing Developer installed a new ESB cable duct in a trench along a section of the lane (for power supply to the new housing estate) and they reinstated their trench excavation for the width of the lane and for the extent of their trench.”

Cllr McEvoy said the work was done well but the other half of the lane should be resurfaced. He explained that one section has a nice finished surface but the other half has lots of potholes. He said that half of the residents have a nice new lane while half are left with potholes.

“It is not a massive area,” said Cllr McEvoy. He believes the residents who were left without a new surface are right to be upset.

“I’d be fairly thick if it was me,” he told the meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.

He asked if it would be possible to meet at the location and talk to the residents to see if some work could be done.
