Breaking: Weather forces postponement of Ossory Show in Laois

Ossory Show in Rathdowney

Organisers Ireland's longest-running agricultural show have postponed the Sunday of their event due to bad weather.

The Ossory Agricultural Show and Ossory Truck Show had been scheduled to take place at the Ossory Showgrounds at Coolfin, Rathdowney this Saturday and Sunday, July 22 & 23.

However, organisers say the weather has forced the main show to be called off.

"It’s with a heavy heart, that we have to announce the postponement of tomorrow’s Ossory Agricultural Show, due to Health & Safety concerns following today’s heavy rainfall.

"We feel that in the interest of the safety and wellbeing of all our patrons, competitors and traders, that it is the correct decision to make.

"The Ossory Agricultural Show will now take place, next Sunday 30th July, in the Ossory Showgrounds," concluded the statment.

They added in a statement to the Leinster Express / Laois Live that the new date would be contingent on weather conditions with further updates issued during the upcoming week.

The event will instead take place in Rathdowney on Sunday, July 30.

The truck show part going ahead on Sunday but it is not open  to the general public.

The truck show organisers issued the following statement.

"In the interest of Health & Safety we have reluctantly made the decision to close tomorrow's Truck Show to the general public.

"After recent rainfall and with more on the way, we had no option but to cancel admissions to our event, in line with the postponement of the Ossory Agricultural Show.

"With most of our trucks on site already, we feel it is only fair to all attendees to judge all 22 categories tomorrow.
Once again we must stress that the Ossory Showgrounds are closed to the public tomorrow for health & safety reasons.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment, but feel in the interests of everybody's safety it is the correct decision to make. Thank you," it said.
