A stretch of the road on the Stradbally side of the town has had to be shut to facilitate work at the Block Road / Stradbally Road roundabout at Beladd.
The work began on Wednesday, August 9. Restrictions will be in place on August 8, 9,10, 14,15,16, 17 from 8am to 8pm each day. Traffic is diverted away from the N80 via the Block Road and onto the Dublin Road to travel through the Portlaoise.
Roadworks are needed to pave the way for construction to commence on the new Kolbe School on Block Road. The entrance to the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise is not impacted.
Apart from impacting local traffic, the work will also affect motorists traveling to and from Carlow and beyond.
It is one of three projects that is causing disruption in Portlaoise on the two main national routes that traverse the town. Work is ongoing on the N80 between Portlaoise and Mountmellick which has necessitated its closure since July.
The road between the Kyletalesha landfill and Derrycloney Mountmellick will be closed until August 18, with traffic diversions in place.
Meanwhile, the N77 road that runs from Portlaoise to Kilkenny has also been restricted to traffic right through the summer. Temporary traffic management arrangements have been place on the Abbeyleix road into Portlaoise since April.
The work is set to continue through to Friday, September 15.
