A planning application has been lodged by Uisce Éireann for the upgrade of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ballyroan.
The upgrade to the plant will include the installation of an additional new wastewater treatment stream, a new above ground storm water holding tank, a new sludge holding tank and the installation of new filters.
The upgrade has been welcomed by Minister of State Sean Fleming TD.
"Ballyroan is a growing village with a growing population. Many new homes have been built in the area in recent years," said Deputy Fleming.
"An upgrade to the Wastewater Treatment Plant is needed to serve the needs of these new homes and growing population."
An environmental impact assessment (Natura Impact Statement) has been prepared in relation to the proposed development.
"I look forward to the planning application being approved and the works commencing as soon as possible to meet the needs of the local community in Ballyroan," added Deputy Fleming.
