Portlaoise march to mark second anniversary of war in Ukraine

Members of the Ukrainian community gathered locally on Tuesday to hold a silent action "Angels of Memory" event.

A march to mark the two year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine will take place in Portlaoise on Saturday.
It comes as members of the Ukrainian community gathered locally on Tuesday to hold a silent action "Angels of Memory" event.

Every year, Ukrainians all over the world create thousands of white paper cutouts that symbolize those who died for Ukraine.

"Angels should be made in the form of white paper cutouts, as the promotion is ecological. Although the rains, snows, winds wash away the angels, and they disappear from the trees, but they remain in our memory," said the organisers.

"Our next event is going to be on February 24 at 10.00 am in Portlaoise near the church. We will have a meeting and then march to the town centre. We invite everyone who stands with Ukraine!"
Anyone interested in attending the march can meet near St Peter's and Paul's church at 10am on Saturday.
