Access to the grounds of the Laois GAA senior Gaelic football champions looks set to be improved and made safer.
The commitment to St Joseph’s GAA club was given at a recent meeting in County Hall Portlaoise after Cllr Padraig Fleming tabled a motion.
The Fianna Fáil representative asked the local authority to install three passing bays in the interest of road users from the N80 up to St Joseph’s GAA club grounds at Milltown as this road is very narrow and two-way traffic is very limited. He said the proposal arose from a recent meeting.
Cllr Fleming said the club is very busy following investments in their facilities. “With the improvements at the club a lot more matches are being played,” he said.
Apart from GAA use, he said the club premises are used by local groups. MORE BELOW PICTURE.

Mr Philip McVeigh, Senior Executive Engineer, replied in writing.
“Laois County Council has inspected this road and will arrange for the passing bays to be installed along this road between the N80 and the GAA Grounds,” he said.
Cllr Fleming said he was delighted with the commitment and hoped it would be completed within months.
The issue was raised at the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District meeting held in Portlaoise recently.
