Councillors advised of how to apply

Call for campaign to guide householders on septic tanks maintenance

Anyone who believes they are eligible for a grant to upgrade their septic tank should contact Laois County Council.

That was the message from Director of Services, Simon Walton, who said there are no specific forms to apply for the grant and people should simply contact the environment section of the council.

Speaking at the latest meeting of Laois County Council, Fianna Fail Cllr Paddy Bracken claimed it was a confusing system.

“That is very confusing. What do I say? I have a tank for the last 40 years?” asked Cllr Bracken.

Mr Walton said if someone believes they may be eligible that should call the environment section of the council and tell them.

“We will go out and do a site visit and take it from there,” he said.

He said the maximum available under the new grant was €12,500 and said the inspection could be done in a few weeks.
