There has been an increase in the number of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests lodged with Laois County Council.
The Information Commissioner's annual report, published on Thursday, June 27, reveals that 98 requests for information under the act were submitted to the local authority last year, up from 76 lodged in 2022.
Of the 98 FOI requests received by Laois County Council last year, 41 were in relation to accessing personal information and 57 were non-personal.
In 2023 there were 37,437 FOI requests made to all public bodies, such as government departments, local authorities and voluntary hospitals across the country. This is the highest number of requests made since 2019 (when 39,904 were received), and the second highest ever since the 2014 FOI Act.
The top three bodies to receive requests for information in 2023 were the HSE (11,748), the Dept. Social Protection (2,468) and TUSLA - Child & Family Agency
(1,333).
