One of the 686 lots due to be sold by Purcell Auctioneers
A treasure trove of local history is due to go under the hammer as the library of the late Frank Meehan is being put up for sale.
The library, which has been broken into 686 lots, is being sold by Purcell Auctioneers in Birr, Co Offaly this Wednesday..
A representative of Purcell Auctioneers said the lots have attracted international interest as well as interest from individuals, libraries and other organisations across the country.
“We are excited to announce the Auction of the Library of the Late Frank Meehan (d.2012), a renowned historian and author, on July 17th at 10am. Frank Meehan, from Portlaoise (or Maryborough as he preferred) Co. Laois. was a revered source of knowledge on Irish history, His collection includes rare antiquarian books, family histories, local parish histories and his own archive material, reflecting his profound understanding and passion for Ireland's past. This is a unique opportunity for historians, collectors, and enthusiasts to acquire scarce pieces from his esteemed library,” the Purcell Auctioneers state on their website.
