Almost thirty recorded as homeless in Laois according to new Department stats

There were 29 people recorded as homeless in Laois in November, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing.
The number of people availing of emergency accommodation from the local authority during the week of November 18 to 24 rose by 26% from the month previous when 23 people were recorded as homeless in the county.
Across the midlands there were 39 families in local authority emergency accommodation. This included 44 adults and 65 children.
There were 186 adults availing of emergency accommodation across the midlands during the week recorded in November. The majority were aged between 25 to 44 (94). There were 57 people aged between 45 and 64 and there were seven people aged over 65 homeless in the region.
Nationally the number of people living in emergency accommodation reached 15,199 in November, a rise of 233 on the previous month.Some 4,658 children were in emergency accommodation between 18 November and 24 November - an increase of 13 on the previous month's figures.
The figures do not include people sleeping rough, those that may be couch surfing or homeless in hospitals or prisons, or those who are in a shelter for asylum seekers, or domestic violence centres.
