A talented Laois musician has thanked the public and hailed the return of his missing flute as a Valentine's Day miracle.

David Vesey, a Laois musician who is well known for playing classical piano and traditional music, was devastated when he lost his flute while using public transport last Wednesday, February 12.

In a post on social media he said: “I have lost my flute, either on a Dublin Bus or on an Irish Rail / Enterprise service from Belfast to Dublin earlier today. I took the Enterprise train from Belfast to Dublin at 12pm.

This flute is of huge sentimental value to me and I will offer a reward for the safe return of my flute. I would appreciate it if you could share this with anyone you may know with Irish Rail / Translink / Dublin Bus,” he had said at the time.

In an update on his social media on Friday, February 14, the Laois musician wrote: “It is a Valentine's Day miracle. My flute has been found safe.

I am so so so grateful for everyone who shared the posts and who spread the word. I can't express in words my gratitude.

I would like to particularly thank Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail, Translink, DublinBusNews and everyone else who was involved in the search for it.

It is such a relief that my flute has been found. This instrument means so much to me. I look forward to making music on it for many years to come!”
