A large tree has fallen to Storm Amy, on the approach road into a Laois town, forcing drivers to divert.

The Mountmellick to Emo road is completely blocked by a partly fallen beech tree on the outskirts of the town, just past the closed scrapyard and Turley's pub.

Drivers are taking a diversion route around by The Rock.

Work began on clearing the tree after 5pm.

Other roads in the area of Eyne, Killeen, Kyletalesha and Derrydavy are also partly blocked by branches.

Met Éireann is warning of the danger of falling trees, with leaves still on trees causing them to be more vulnerable to catching strong winds.

Laois is under a Status Yellow - Wind Warning until midnight this Friday night.
