A garda checkpoint this week.
Laois Gardaí have commenced their Christmas road safety campaign and will be ramping up drink and drug driving checkpoints in the coming weeks.
The first of the checkpoints was carried out by the Offaly Roads Policing Unit on Monday when members conducted Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) for drink and drugs and no detections were recorded.
"That’s the outcome we want to see — responsible driving keeping everyone safe as the festive season begins," said a garda spokesperson.
"Our visible presence will continue across the county in the weeks ahead. Please plan ahead, never drive under the influence, and look out for one another on the roads. Safe journeys this Christmas."
