Laois Offaly Gardaí have urged motorists to slow down after a number of motorists were detected speeding outside a school.

“This morning, the Offaly Roads Policing Unit conducted a speed enforcement operation at drop-off time outside a National School, Birr. The area is a 60km/h zone,” gardaí stated.

They said “a number of speeding detections were made, and fixed charge notices and penalty points will follow.”

A number of the motorists were detected doing over 80kph and one was detected at 91kph in the 60kph zone.

“This operation forms part of An Garda Síochána’s ongoing commitment to road safety and the protection of children at school times.

“Slow down. School zones are high-risk environments. A moment’s impatience can change lives forever,” gardai warned.
