A Councillor has said potholes are reappearing no sooner than they are filled on a Laois road.

Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan asked in a motion “that Laois County Council unblock drainage at Garrymaddock, which is leading to surface water pooling and subsequent damage to the road surface”.

She said there was “an awful lot of potholes” in the area and while she acknowledged Council’s efforts to fill the holes, she said, “the stuff that is put down just washes away”.

In response to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan, said “Laois County Council has scheduled its road maintenance crew to tend to the Garrymaddock area to maintain and reopen drains as part of its Municipal District wide winter maintenance operations.”

The motion was seconded by Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy at the monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
