The Office of Public Works has asked a Laois TD to contact them in relation to safety works at the Rock of Dunamase.
A week before Christmas, Laois TD Sean Fleming asked about safety works in a Parliamentary Question.
In a response on December 18, Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran said: “As previously advised to the Deputy in September, the Office of Public Works does not have any ongoing works or plans to undertake significant works at the Rock of Dunamase but continues to carry out routine maintenance.”
Minister Moran said “it is the OPW's understanding that Laois County Council is currently working on the public car park, picnic area and landscaping adjacent to the monument. The OPW regrets that it cannot provide any specific details in relation to this programme of works.”
According to Minister Moran, “the OPW is unsure to what the Deputy refers when referencing making the location safe and asks that his office contacts this organisation directly in this regard.”

“It is intended that management of hedgerows and cutting back of vegetation will be completed on site in Quarter 1 2026. This work will happen in adherence with legislation and as part of the maintenance schedule for the site,” Minister Moran said.
