Motorists crashed into a wall in Castletown three times over Christmas prompting a Councillor to call on drivers to slow down.

Independent Cllr James Kelly said chevrons had now been installed on the wall by Laois County Council at the dangerous bend at Dainganroe, Castletown near Mountrath.

“Following three impacts on the wall during Christmas period residents contacted me and I commend the prompt response from Council employees. Please slow down on this very dangerous bend,” Cllr Kelly stated.

Cllr Kelly said the wall is located on a busy road coming down from the hurling field. He urged motorists to take care and said the new chevrons would be of little use if a driver is travelling too quickly.

“It is down to driver behaviour as well, they have to just slow down,” said Cllr Kelly.

“What we are asking for really is that people would slow down,” he said.

He urged motorists to take care when driving in the area.
