Extra money will be required to repair a road which has been damaged by the winter weather, a Council meeting was told.
Independent Cllr Aisling Moran requested the work in a recent motion. She asked “that Laois County Council repair the road surface at Rosbran, Barrowhouse as the road is in dire straits”.
In response, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan said, “Laois County Council will schedule to have road repaired where necessary when pluvial flooding dissipates and, in the interim, will carry out an updated PSCI Survey to record the roads condition.”
Cllr Moran described the road as being “in a very bad way” and she said it was “down to the weather” but it has “gone beyond pothole repairs”. She claimed that every road in Barrowhouse was in a bad way.
She told Mr Drennan that additional funding would be needed due to the extent of the damage to the roads.
Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming seconded the motion. He said the recent bad weather had caused “significant damage” to many of the roads.
The issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
