A business and residence is being hit be flooding caused by rain water flowing from the public road, according to a Laois councillor.

Cllr Conor Bergin, Fine Gael, called for action when he raised the issue at a recent meeting with Laois County council.

He tabled a motion calling for the council to  address the flooding issue at Richard Power’s residence at the Green Roads, Ballybrophy as a matter of priority.

Cllr Bergin said locations with drainage problems were badly affected by recent bad weather.

“The individual is running business there. The water is flowing off the road into his entrance,” he said.

Cllr John King, Fine Gael, said the extensive work was carried out in the area to tackle flooding at a local pub in recent years.

He expected drainage installed at the time could help resolve the problem highlighted by Cllr Bergin.

Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied in writing.

“Laois County Council will inspect the existing drainage infrastructure at this site to determine the cause of the flooding issues. A level survey will be undertaken at the site to identify a possible drainage outfall to solve this issue,” he said.

The issue was raised at the recent meeting of Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District.
