A Laois animal charity is advising people that it is not rehoming any more dogs this year.

Laois Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(LSPCA) posted a picture of a little puppy that was “an unwanted gift” surrendered to them last week.

Laois SPCA said it has received a number of calls from people looking for dogs to give as a Christmas present.

“Under no circumstances do we ever rehome a dog as a present,” the charity stated.

“Below is a photo of a puppy surrendered into our care last week ‘an unwanted gift’ , I think this says it all,” they added.

LSPCA say they are finished rehoming dogs until the New Year and those who had already submitted an application will be contacted.
