Laois basketball star earns another Ireland senior call-up

The former Mountmellick Community School student from Clonaslee has progressed through the Irish underage ranks to establish herself at senior level
Clonaslee native Emer Dunne has been named in the Ireland senior women’s basketball squad for the upcoming FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2029 Pre-Qualifiers.
The 20-year-old is included in new head coach Thomas Garlepp’s first squad since taking charge of the national team, with Ireland set to face Iceland, Azerbaijan and Switzerland in Group A fixtures this month.
Ireland begin their campaign against Iceland at the National Basketball Arena on Wednesday, November 11, before travelling to Azerbaijan on November 14 and Switzerland on November 17.
Dunne’s latest selection continues an impressive rise through the international ranks. She was previously named in the Ireland Under-20 women’s squad, which travelled to Hungary in August 2025 to compete in the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Championships. She also earned her first senior international cap at the start of 2026, having progressed from the underage international setup.
A former pupil of Mountmellick Community School, Dunne currently plays her club basketball with Career Decisions UCC Glanmire and is one of 13 players named in Garlepp’s squad for the November fixtures.
