Laois TD Charlie Flanagan expressed delight at the allocation of €967,500 for projects in Laois announced this morning.
The funding is a part of a €27 million package announced by The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys to combat dereliction and breathe new life into rural towns and villages.
The Town and Village Renewal Scheme funding will benefit projects in Ballinakill, Mountmellick, Portarlington, Ballyroan and Abbeyleix.
“I am delighted that my colleague, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has made this funding available through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme,” said Deputy Flanagan.
“In recent years, many villages and towns across the constituency has benefitted from this scheme. This funding has always been vitally important to help towns and villages thrive, and tackle the issue of dereliction which is an unfortunate feature across many towns and village across the county,” he said.
“The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered through Laois County Council in consultation with local communities.
“There is also significant investment to regenerate old buildings and enhancement works at areas of natural beauty - helping make our towns and villages more attractive places to visit and enjoy.”
“The Town & Village Renewal Scheme goes to the heart of the rural development policy ‘Our Rural Future’ – breathing new life into towns and villages and making them better places to live, work and raise a family,” concluded Deputy Flanagan.
