Concerns over safety of children near Laois estate

Concerns were raised for children’s safety over the proposed use of an estate entrance  for a building site entrance in Laois.

Cllr Ben Brennan expressed concern about the possible use of an existing estate entrance by construction traffic.

“I have a concern about a building site in Graiguecullen beside Meadows Way."  He explained that Meadows Way has only recently been taken in charge.

“There’s all young children in it out playing. They have to cross the street for the play area and the residents are told that that’s going to be the construction entrance for the next three years,” said Cllr Brennan.

He said there was another entrance that could be used and he was opposed to the use of the existing entrance.

“I would be totally against it. It is not right in a lovely housing estate just taken in charge,” he insisted.

“It is not good for health and safety with children there,” added Cllr Brennan. He asked Director of Services Gerry Murphy to look at the plans.

“The residents aren’t too happy and I wouldn’t blame them,” he told the last meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
