Residents near a bridge in Laois have alerted Laois County Council that it may be eroding.

Two bridges at Dooary crossroads near Ballyroan village are showing signs that their underlying structures are eroding.

Cllr Barry Walsh raised their concerns to the Portlaoise Municipal District, in a motion tabled to the January meeting.

"This was highlighted by local residents. There appears to be signs of erosion. Hopefully we can stop any issues happening in the future," he said.

His motion asks the council to review the structure of the two bridges.

It was seconded by Cllr John Joe Fennelly.

"When Wes comes out you can be guaranteed the work will be done," he said.

Area engineer Wes Wilkinson said that he will meet Cllr Walsh on site to examine both bridges.
