A woman has been taken to hospital after the car she was travelling in crashed as it attempted to avoid hitting a fox on the Abbeyleix/Rathdowney Road.
The single car collision happened at 6.30am this morning (Wednesday, May 3) at the bridge just east of Rathdowney.
Five people, all with addresses in Portlaoise, were in the vehicle and emergency services attended the scene. A garda spokesperson has told the Leinster Express that a 49-year-old woman originally from Poland was taken by ambulance to hospital, but it is understood her injuries are minor.
The spokesperson said that the car swerved to avoid a fox on the road ahead and collided with a wall.
The road is now open and the garda investigation is ongoing.
