'The mentality of people just flabbergasts us' Laois Tidy Towns slams illegal dumping

Mountmellick Tidy Towns have slammed illegal dumping in a social media post published on Tuesday, January 28. The post said: "The mentality of people just flabbergasts us at times. They drive their big expensive jeeps/vans deep into the bog to continually dump and destroy the landscape.

"It would be cheaper to go to landfill!"

The Mountmellick Tidy Towns branch also called on Laois County Council to look into the installation of CCTV at dumping sites.

Locals expressed their disgust and outrage at the dumping by sharing their thoughts in the comment section of the post.

One person commented: "Absolutely disgusting leaving it for others to clear it away until the next they come back with another load."

Another said: "Absolutely disgusting. Most of what is dumped can be recycled for next to nothing. We need proper monitoring and seriously need to up the penalties.. I'd have no issues with somebody doing jail time for fly tipping"

Another person said: "The cost to drive to these places, it would be cheaper to go to the council dump. Hmm or get a fn brown bin even."
