Laois singer to fly the county flag at New York's St Patrick's Day Parade

Singer Emer Dunne made the exciting announcement on social media

Laois folk singer Emer Dunne will be representing the county and country at New York's St Patrick's Day Parade.

The Mountmellick singer is returning to New York for the parade after she performed in the state last year as part of her first ever US tour.

Emer and her band also performed concerts in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

While touring the East Coast of America, Emer connected with new fans and even some native Laois people.

During the New York leg of the tour, members of the Laois Association of New York, which is made up of people from the county who have lived in the US for many years, turned out to show their support for the singer.

Emer made the announcement on her social media, saying: "Still can’t believe I’ll be walking in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade representing Laois and Ireland. Such an honour."
