Mountmellick play park in Laois reopened yesterday May 31, to the delight of local children.
On its first day to open, the park was quickly thronged with children playing in the hot weather.
It is over six months since the Irishtown park beside the Owenass River was submerged in the catastrophic floods that hit Mountmellick on November 22 2017.
Ten days ago a contractor began work on behalf of Laois County Council to replace gravel paths washed away in the flood, with tarmac paths that can withstand flooding.
They could be under test today, as up to 50mm of torrential rainfall is forecast by Met Eireann to fall in Ireland. Read Weather Forecast here.
