New Country Market could open in Laois town by Christmas

There has been a lot of online interest in setting up a country market in Mountmellick
Mountmellick could soon be getting a country market judging by the level of interest shown in the idea online.
Reverend Lesley Robinson was amazed at the positive reaction she received when she posted the idea of setting up a country market in Mountmellick on an online community notice board.
She said the post had gone “viral” due to the “amazing” level of interest there was in getting a market up and running in the town.
“Expressions of interest are invited from anyone wishing to find out more information on the possibility of setting up a Country Market in Mountmellick. “
“Anything home made or home grown can be sold in a Country Market- baking, jams, vegetables, knits etc in return for a modest annual membership fee and a small commission. If there is sufficient interest, a preliminary meeting will be organised in the near future,” the notice stated.
“We would be looking to have a bit of input from the National Country Market overall grouping,” Rev. Robinson explained.
She said there would have to be enough people willing to set up a committee they could then look at a venue and move the project on.
If the level of interest expressed online is reflected on the ground, Rev. Robinson believes the Country Market could be up and running by Christmas.
“I would certainly hope by the end of the year at the latest,” she said.
She explained that a number of people had expressed an interest in having the market up and running by the end for Christmas. She said the market could then register with the National Country Markets group in the new year.
