A man has died following a collision on the M6 motorway in the midlands.
The victim, a pedestrian, and a truck were involved in the incident close to Tullamore, Co Offaly around 4.45am on Saturday.
Gardai said the man, aged in his early 50s, was fatally injured in the collision.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out.
A Garda spokesperson has issued an appeal for any witnesses to what happened on the M6 between junctions five and six westbound.
“Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward,” they said.
“Gardai are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to Gardai.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on (057) 932 7600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
