ALERT: Status Yellow thunderstorm warnings issued for most of Ireland as sunny spell set to end

Met Éireann has issued two separate Status Yellow thunderstorm warnings for 23 counties with frequent lightning and surface water-flooding expected.

The first warning for 12 counties will come into place from 6am Sunday for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford, and end at midnight.

A separate alert for Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly and Westmeath comes into effect at 12pm and ends at midnight.

Met Eireann has said localised thunderstorms with slow-moving heavy downpours will lead to "frequent lightning and surface water-flooding".

The UK Met Office issued a thunderstorm warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry, which comes into effect from 2pm on Sunday until 11:59pm.
