RIP: Tributes paid to 'vibrant, happy and talented student' who died in Tipperary collision

The victim has been named locally as 18-year-old Bronagh English

The victim of a single vehicle fatal road traffic accident that occurred in Tipperary on Thursday, April 24, has been named.

18-year-old Bronagh English was a leaving certificate student at Rockwell College. After 10pm, a car left the road at Kilaldry Bridge, Kilmoyler and entered the River Aherlow.

Her body was recovered from the water by members of the Garda Water Unit and was removed from the scene to the mortuary where a post mortem examination is due to take place.

Tributes are now being paid from around the county to the young student from those who knew her.

AOK-DANCE, an Irish contemporary ballet school, spoke fondly of their past pupil. 

A spokesperson said on social media, "We are heartbroken to hear of the tragic death of Bronagh English, a former ballet student of the school. She was such a beautiful girl, always with a smile on her face, and full of talent. There really are no words. Thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time. May Bronagh rest in peace."

Bronagh's school, Rockwell College, is mourning the loss of the sixth year student. 

The school said, "Bronagh was a kind, vibrant, happy, and talented student and friend who will be dearly missed and remembered with great love. We ask you to please keep Bronagh’s parents, siblings, wider family, and friends in your thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

Clonmel Rugby Football Club spoke out on the devastating loss also, saying, "On behalf of our President Mr John Sheehan, it is with huge sadness Clonmel Rugby Football Club, members, general committee and the community offer our condolences and deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Bronagh English who sadly lost her life in an accident.

"Bronagh’s family have a strong affiliation with our club as both of her brothers are players on our U14 and U12 squads respectively. As a mark of respect and solidarity no Clonmel RFC teams will line out at home or away this weekend as we have postponed all fixtures we were scheduled in to play and no event’s will be taking place at our club home in Ard Gaoithe.

"As we, along with the wider community of Clonmel town, neighbouring villages and townlands’ begin to deal with the mourning process of this very sad unexpected passing of Bronagh, we also extend our offer of help and support to the English family during this tragic time. May Bronagh rest in peace. Ar dheis dé go raibh a hanam dílis," they added.

Moyle Rovers Ladies Football have also suspended all football activities for this weekend, as a mark of respect to the late Bronagh. 

They said, "We are all very shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the death of Bronagh English in a car accident last night. Bronagh played with our club for a short while at a young age. Her sister Mia is a current player, her brothers play with the Moyle Rovers Club and her family have been great supporters over many years.

"As we mourn the very sad passing of a talented young life and former player, our sympathies go out to Bronagh’s family and we will do all we can to help and support them in whatever way we can.

"May Bronagh rest in peace and our thoughts and prayers to her heartbroken family," they concluded. 

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the L3101 or in the Kilmoyler area between 10pm and midnight last night are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses close to the area to contact them at Cahir Garda station on 052-7445630.
