A Laois special needs school is back at the 2024 National Ploughing Championships with another huge raffle to raise money for their children.

Kolbe Special School in Portlaoise is getting a new school, after a 20 year wait and battle by parents and staff. They teach children between 5 and 18 with severe to profound disabilities in Portlaoise.

While the new school is funded by the Department of Education, they will need money to buy some of the equipment to enhance their pupils' education.

Their stand at Row 20, stand 487 is selling tickets for €10 to win a new adult Quad bike, or a cash equivalent.

Principal Orlagh Mahon gave the Leinster Express / Laois Live an update on construction.

"It's going up. The foundations are in. Fingers crossed it will be finished next year," she said.

"We are asking people to come and support us. Any money raised will go for equipment for the new school. Like a Wallball Pro, and a switch activated surround sound system so that the kids can engage in storytelling and drama," she explained.

The winner will be drawn at the end of day three of the National Ploughing Championships.
