PICTURES: Romantic Ireland dead - bouquets and Irish flag waste dumped in Laois woodland

Over a dozen flower bouquets in plastic littering Portlaoise woodland entrance

A huge pile of dead flower bouquets and party waste is the latest incident of dumping in a blackspot rural area near Portlaoise.

At least 12 large floral bouquets in red wrappers and plastic have been dumped at the entrance to a picturesque woodland on the L6134 in Straboe. The waste, photographed by the Leinster Express / Laois Live on Monday morning, March 23, includes many empty packages of Irish flags.

The ditches of the straight road which has very few houses, are littered with other piles of waste, including tyres and construction waste. Laois County Council's environment section has been asked for a comment. Leaving or throwing litter in a public place is an offence that can be subject to an on-the-spot fine of €150 or a maximum fine of €4,000 if you are convicted of a litter offence in the District Court.
