Pothole repair work praised

The road in a Laois housing estate has reached a point where only a full resurfacing will fix the problems, according to a county councillor.

Cllr John King, Fine Gael, raised the issue at a recent meeting with Laois County council officials.

He tabled a motion calling on the local authority to make provision in its road budget to resurface the road in Village View Estate Erril.

“The present surface cannot be repaired anymore due to pot holes and over patching,” he said.

Cllr King said there are 20 houses in the estate which was built in the 1980s. He said it was not a big job and he committed discretionary funds to cover the costs.

“I want to see this job taken in hand before we have people injured,” he said.

Cllr James Kelly, Independent, said safety must come first.

“If there is that kind of surface in a housing estate, that is not acceptable,” he said.

Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied in writing.

Laois County Council will arrange to meet the Elected Member to inspect the roads in the estate. An application to resurface the roads in the estate could be considered under a Community Involvement Scheme.
