Three-time World Darts champion Michael van Gerwen and Limerick's Willie O'Connor will both make an appearance at an exhibition in Laois this coming March.
MVG comes to Durrow having been beaten in the quarter-finals of this year's World Championship by Scott Williams, who ended up getting whitewashed 6-0 by eventual champion Luke Humphries in the semi-final. O'Connor was involved in one of the matches of the tournament as he was eventually knocked out by 'Hollywood' Chris Dobey in the Second Round with the English star firing in a 103 average to win by three sets to two.
O'Connor along with three other players are the only people to have played in all 13 editions of the World Cup of Darts. Him and Carlow native Steve Lennon went all the way to the final in 2019 with Scotland's Peter Wright and Gary Anderson defeating the Irish pair 3-1.
Former World Number 1 MVG boasts one of the most impressive darting CV's with him winning the Sid Waddell Trophy on three occasions in 2014, 2017 and 2019. He's also a seven-time Premier League champion and has won the World Grand Prix six times.
For those wishing to play MVG, you must raise a minimum of €200 while a fee of at least €100 is required to play Willie 'The Magpie' O'Connor. The person who raises the most money will get to play both players, receive a signed dartboard, a 15-minute period in the practice room with both players as well as a €50 bar tab to be used on the night. Those wishing to get sponsorship cards or to find out more can contact Barry Bowe on 0874888534.
Both players will come to the Castle Arms Hotel in Durrow on Tuesday, March 26 with there being two different ticket options. VIP tickets cost €60 with a €2.50 Online Booking Fee. VIP includes a meet & greet with Michael, priority seating and Q&A. Doors open at 7pm for VIP ticket holders. The general admission tickets cost €30 plus €1.50 Online Booking Fee with doors open at 7.45pm. Tickets for the event can be bought here.
