National medals for Portlaoise athletes at Indoor Track and Field Championships in Athlone

Portlaoise Athletics Club had a highly successful weekend at the National Juvenile Indoor Track and Field Championships in Athlone, with athletes claiming national medals and delivering strong performances across multiple events.

Day One saw Daniel Downey, also a member of the Laois GAA minor hurling and football panels for 2026, claim gold in the U18 Boys 60m Hurdles final, while Reuben Plunkett finished 4th in the U19 200m final. Other notable performances included Uchenna Okoroji, who finished 4th in his heat of the U19 200m, and Joshua Osumah, who also placed 4th in the U17 200m heat.

On Day Two, Downey added a silver medal in the U18 Boys 400m final, demonstrating his versatility on the track. Plunkett secured bronze in the U19 Boys 400m final, achieving a personal best and missing silver by just 0.02 seconds. Osumah finished 4th in the U17 Boys High Jump final and 3rd in his 60m heat, rounding off a strong weekend for the club.
