Grade 4 glory as Laois lift Leinster Badminton Championship

The Laois badminton that were crowned Grade 4 Leinster Badminton champions in March

Sunday, March 22, was a proud day for Laois badminton as two county teams competed at the Leinster Badminton Championships in Baldoyle Badminton Centre.

The Grade 6 team produced a determined display in their semi-final against County Meath. In a closely contested tie, Laois battled throughout but were narrowly defeated 5–3.

The Grade 4 team, however, enjoyed a standout campaign. They opened with confident wins over County Kildare, County Dublin and County Kilkenny in the earlier rounds. In the semi-final, Laois overcame County Louth with a composed 5–2 victory, before producing an impressive performance in the final against County Westmeath, winning 5–1 to secure the Leinster title.

The win sees the Grade 4 squad crowned provincial champions, representing both Laois and their clubs, Mountrath and Portlaoise, as they now turn their attention to national honours. The team will compete in the All-Ireland final on May 17 at the University of Galway.

The latest success continues an outstanding run for Laois badminton, marking the fourth consecutive year the county has secured a Leinster title across the grades following Grade 6 success in 2023, back-to-back Grade 5 victories in 2024 and 2025, and now the Grade 4 triumph in 2026.

Laois has also enjoyed notable national achievements in recent years, including All-Ireland wins at Grade 6 in 2023 and Grade 5 in 2024, as well as a narrow runner-up finish in 2025.
