Laois fire fighters preparing to strike meet local politicians

Laois fire crews set to strike have met with TDs and county councillors to plead for action.
Irish fire fighters all over the country are starting to strike this Tuesday, June 13, over their poor pay and work conditions.
Retained fire crews are paid as little as €8,500 a year to be on duty seven days a week, except for their annual holidays.
The poor pay means crews around Laois and elsewhere are short staffed, leaving unbearable conditions for the men and women who stay on in the life saving job. Read more below.
Laois County & Rescue Fire Service members will start their rolling 24 hour strikes on Tuesday, with four out of the eight stations closed each day, only responding to life threatening calls.
