Gardaí have announced the assignment of a brand new patrol car to Portlaoise.

A total of six patrol cars will be stationed across the country, with one allocated to Portlaoise, Naas, Blanchardstown, Ballyshannon, Mitchelstown and Dublin City's Kevin Street.

The 2024 Skoda Octavia RS has features including virtual cockpit, keyless entry, cruise control, Apple Carplay/Android Auto, dual zone climate control, front and rear park sensors, a rear view camera and heated seats.

The new 2024 hybrid cars start at €41,110.

There were mixed reactions to the announcement on Facebook.

Many users questioned both the practicality and the price range of the cars, along with the size of the fleet. Other users reacted with praise and best wishes.
