The event was held at Portlaoise Plaza with live music and family fun, along with the 100k and a 53k cycles. Over 80 cyclists took part in the two cycles.

The morning was met with forecasts of rain, which thankfully held off.

The cycles were punctuated with a midway break at Timahoe Community Hall, where cyclists were met with a performance from the Malva Ukrainian Choir. The singers also made tea and coffee for the cyclists.

"The event was the brain child of John Malone from Newbridge Cyclist Club, along with Declan and Richie who assisted him," said organisers.

"He came to us months ago with this idea, together we got a subcommittee together to start the process," they said.

Organisers wished to thank Civil Defence, who donated two ambulances and four medics, who supported the event and helped plan the cycle route directions and mapping distances.

They also thanked Timahoe Community Hall for allowing the group to use their facilities for the midway cycle break, and all who helped organise and support the day.

"We need to say that, with the figures of homelessness increasing again this month “ to a record high” , services like ourselves are sadly needed more than ever," said organisers.

"The support we get from all of you makes it easier for us to support those in need, and with that we thank you," the PATH team finished.
