Big celebrations to mark 70 years of the Clonaslee show

The Clonaslee Agricultural & Livestock Show is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. This year's event, which showcases the best of agriculture, livestock, and community spirit, was officially launched at the Clonaslee Community Centre, home to the Clonaslee Showgrounds. on Wednesday, August 7. It is now all systems go for the build up to this year's event on Sunday, September 8 which promises to be another spectacular family day out.


Kicking off the event with a speech from the Chairperson Pat Carroll stating “This year marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the 70th show. The Clonaslee Show has flourished since its inception with incredible history, and we are thrilled to celebrate our 70th anniversary. It’s a testament to the dedication and passion of our community."


The show will feature the prestigious All-Ireland Cattle and Dog championships, alongside numerous other agricultural and non-agricultural activities. Visitors can enjoy competitions, including livestock shows where breeders will present the finest cattle, sheep, and more. Also, new to the show is a Young Handler Sheep competition.


Families are in for a treat with a wide range of activities designed for all ages. Kids go free and can enjoy numerous free activities including bouncing castles, face painting, balloon modelling, pets’ corner, bakery competitions, and much more.


“We’ve ensured there’s something for everyone,” says committee member Paul Flanagan.


Treasurer of the Clonaslee Show, Maryrose Corbet, adds, “With an astounding overall prize fund of €20,000 and top prizes of up to €700?, this year’s show is not to be missed.” The day will be filled with music and entertainment, with Rock on Paddy as the MC and Dee Morrissey providing live performances. From live music to various exhibitions, there’s plenty to see and do.
Key highlights of the Clonaslee Agricultural Show include:

  • All Ireland Anthony Mahers Agri All Ireland Championship with a €1,500 prize fund
  • Gain Dog Food All Ireland Final
  • Pedigree competitions
  • Equestrian, sheep, and poultry competitions
  •  Young Handler in both Cattle and Sheep
  • Dedicated Sustainability Craft section
  • Vintage car and tractor shows
  • Fun family events with numerous free activities including bouncing castles, face painting, balloon modelling, pets’ corner, bakery competitions, carnival rides, and much more
  • Local home produce exhibitions including baking, crafts, flowers, and vegetables
  • The local and All Ireland dog show
  • Live music and entertainment with Rock on Paddy and Dee Morrissey!

The Clonaslee Show has become a special community event, celebrating agricultural heritage and providing a fun, engaging experience for families and visitors of all ages.
