“It’s fantastic to see everyone’s hard work come together. This year’s plays are full of heart, humour, and history — a real celebration of local theatre," producer Gráinne Linden told the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
This year's performances follows their sold-out shows of 2024, bringing the audience three varied plays.
'The Black and Tan Raid in Clontyglass', a commissioned work by Eileen Casey, is inspired by true events that took place in County Laois in 1921.
Featuring local children alongside adult cast members, the group say that it brings 'a touching and authentic energy' to the story, as a 'powerful portrayal of life during turbulent times'.
'The Hired Help' is a short, laugh-out-loud comedy about mistaken identity in rural Ireland.
'The Yank Outsider' by Brian Drum rounds off the evening with a light-hearted comedy about matchmaking. When an unsuspecting American lands in an Irish village, the locals aren't one bit pleased.
Co-producer with the Ballyfin Players, Mrs AC Reynolds, reflected on the community spirit found within the group.
“There’s a great mix of comedy and drama this year. Having children on stage adds a lovely warmth, and it really shows what community theatre is all about," she said.
The group wishes to extend a special thanks to Fr Joe Brophy.
"His unwavering support and encouragement have once again played a huge part in helping the group bring these productions to life," they finished.
