In PICTURES: Peace protester bypasses fuel protest on Laois leg of March

Peace protestor departs Mountrath for Portlaoise

The fuel protest may have gridlocked Laois roads, but it hasn't stopped a nonagenarian peace activist from continuing her walk to Ireland against the use of Shannon Airport by the US military. 

Lelia Doolan, aged 91, is walking from the Clare Airport to Dublin to highlight and protest the ongoing use of Shannon by the US military. Ann Marie Kelly was in Mountrath on Wednesday morning, March 8, to capture the Leilia setting of on the Mountrath to Portlaoise leg of the peace protest.

The Galway-based filmmaker spoke to the Leinster Express / Laois Live ahead of her walk through the county encourages them to join in.

“I know well that the people of Laois value our neutrality. All you have to do is come out for a day, give us a wave, walk with us for a step.

"Sing us a song, clap us on the road, beep your horn in solidarity, just remind the Taoiseach and the Government, we are people who want a peaceful world, a kind world, a world of fun, enjoyment, kindness, decency,” Ms Doolan said.
