The playground at the People’s Park in Portarlington is due to close for a number of weeks.
Laois County Council is advising users that the playground will be closed from Wednesday, October 2 to facilitate works.
The council decided to wait until schools had resumed to begin the work so local children could use the playground during the summer. The planned refurbishment will now involve the upgrade and installation of new playground equipment.
The project is part of the council’s wider development and enhancement of the People’s Park.
Independent Cllr Aidan Mullins said the work will include the replacement of old playground equipment and the installation of “an awful lot of new equipment”. He said the playground “may not open this side of Christmas, depending on the weather.”
Meanwhile, he said the first phase of the park’s redevelopment, which includes the central plaza, is expected to be finished in the next six to eight weeks.
Laois County Council say they expect the playground works to last eight to ten weeks from the date of commencement. They apologised for any inconvenience caused to people attending the park.
