Funding of €50,000 has been announced for Portarlington Rugby Football Club (RFC) to develop a walking track in their facilities.
The funding has been announced under the Government’s Healthy Ireland Walking Tracks initiative.
The Club has received the maximum amount under this grant scheme, of €50,000.
Portarlington RFC recently received €118,108 funding under the Government’s Sports Capital Grant scheme, to install LED Pitch Floodlighting and associated works.
Welcoming the funding Seán Fleming TD, Minister of State, said: "This is great news which will definitely develop the Club and support them with their projects going forward.
"Local groups like Portarlington Rugby Football Club play vital roles in our communities in Laois, by providing safe and fun environments for local children and adults, to play sports and get involved in their community.
"I want to thank the Club for proposing this project and applying for the funding. I look forward to this project getting underway for the community in Portarlington.
"Portarlington is a growing town and it needs more recreational and sporting facilities to cater for the local people. I encourage everyone to use these local facilities, because it is great to get out for a walk or exercise for your physical health, mental health and general wellbeing."
