The housing project under construction in Portarlington.
A planning application has been lodged with Laois County Council for a creche and daycare centre within a major new housing development in Portarlington.
Kevin O'Rourke has lodged the plans for the new two storey Creche and Daycare Centre, including outdoor play area, set down and car parking areas, landscaping and boundary treatments, ancillary site services and all associated site works at Bishopswood Road, Droughill, Portarlington.
The Creche site is located within the Bishopswood residential development. 97 residential units have previously been granted and this is currently under construction. The adjoining site, to the south east is the subject of a separate planning application, for 49 residential units.
The application states: "This proposed facility will provided additional childcare capacity for this growing town generally, but it is envisaged that much of the demand for services and future intake for this facility will come from the
immediate residential development and its environs."
The Creche will offer a structured child care service providing: full day care; part time day care; after-school services and sessional services.
A decision due to be made by Council planners by September 3, 2025.
