Phenomenal meals on wheels work in Laois Offaly border town Portarlington

Portarlington Meals on Wheels.

More 6,600 meals were cooked and delivered by the Portarlington Social Services in 2017, the recent AGM of the service for the Laois Offaly border town was told.

The 47th AGM of Portarlington Social Services took place on Friday January 26. Chairman Rory Whelan presided over the meeting.

The meeting was told that last year in 2017 there was 6, 643 meals cooked by the wonderful ladies in the kitchen. These meals were then delivered by 80 plus volunteers. ]

Without these volunteers the Centre and the service could not function. Last year it cost over €44,000 to run the centre.

The service depends on help of the HSE, the donations from the public and the help of the Community Employment scheme the service could not continue.

The Committee for 2018 are: Chairman- Paul Mooney, Vice Chairman- Rory Whelan, Secretary-Ann Bourke Dunne, Treasurer- Geraldine O’Reilly, Committee-Ken Dunne, Jenny Champ, Mary Maher & Deirdre Hyland.

Card Secretaries- Breda Dunne & Vincent Hogan. Trustees-Mrs Dorothy Odlum, Adrian Honan, Geraldine O’Reilly & Ken Dunne.
