An event to mark Go Purple Day in Laois that was due to take place on Friday, May 16 has been postponed following the death of Garda Kevin Flatley.
Go Purple Day is held to raise awareness of domestic violence and the supports available in the county. A social walk was due to take place in Portlaoise this week hosted by Laois Gardaí and Laois Domestic Abuse Services but has been rescheduled following the death of the 49-year-old father-of-two who was struck by a motorbike while on duty in north Dublin last weekend.
The social walk from St Peter and Paul's Church has been rescheduled for Friday, May 30 at 10am followed by refreshments in the Parish Centre.
Garda Kathleen Troy and Roisin Quigley from Laois Domestic Abuse Service were out and about in Portlaoise creating awareness for this year's Go Purple Day.
"Remember: If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. You are not alone," said a Garda spokesperson.
