Visiting restrictions have been imposed at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise due to a Covid-19 outbreak.
Hospital management said they are currently experiencing a high number of patients with the virus which they say "appears to be circulating in the community".
"As a result, visiting restrictions have been implemented to help reduce the spread of the virus within the healthcare setting," said the Portlaoise hospital.
Visiting restrictions are currently in place on all wards, with the exception of Maternity and Paediatrics. It comes as Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore has put visiting restrictions in place earlier this week as a high number of patients presented with Covid-19 symptoms.
In Portlaoise the hospital advised that visits on critical and compassionate grounds will continue to be accommodated by contacting the Clinical Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge of the relevant ward.
"For up-to-date guidelines on visiting patients, please visit: https://www2.hse.ie/services/
"Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise management would like to thank members of the public for their support in preventing the spread of infection in the hospital. Their help is vital to protect patients, staff, and the wider community.
"Where possible, the management at Regional Hospital Portlaoise is asking patients with non-emergency conditions to seek assistance from other parts of the health service such as their local Pharmacy, GP, GP out of hours service, or a local injury unit.
"You can visit http://www.hse.ie/injuryunits to find your nearest injury unit and their opening hours. If you require urgent medical attention out of hours, you can visit https://www2.hse.ie/services/
